That's if the banks don't freeze your account first and someone emptying a deceased persons account could find themselves in trouble with the law I'd think.

Sorry for your loss. In my experience, if there is nothing set up prior to the decease, then the bank will blow you off. My father and I went to Canadia Bank and met a big/middle boss after my brother died in Cambodia - with all documents: death certificate, power of attorney etc - the bank wouldn't even tell us what was in the account.

In our case it wasn't a big deal, but I just want to prepare you for the fact that you might never know or get access to your brother's bank account, unless your brother arranged something before he died ?

Another guy I knew( in Cambodia), who knew he was dying, got his wife to empty the account in his last days to be sure that she would get the money. Has your brother got Cambodian family, or close friends in Cambodia who might know about his financial situation ?
