Ma, look what they've done to Otres Beach..

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The beginnings of a mega city.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

I was down there a few days ago. Couldn’t believe the change. Otres 1&2 two are gone, there’s now an Otres 3, if you like smoldering garbage, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
The places I used to tell barangs to go if they wanted quiet, relax, good food have been bulldozed.
Imho, total fucking shithole now.
Edit: that’s not an exaggeration, there were many, many, flaming piles of garbage. Otres 1&2 don’t exist if you saw them before as a semi sleepy place with guesthouses of 6-20 rooms, the beach road is cement, and everything, literally, on the ocean side of the road has been flattened. The area behind the well maintained public beach between 1&2 is all being developed.

Love the title of this thread. Knew that area for the last 19 years, especially the beaches of Independence before they ruined that and then Otres. Was living there when the Chinese invasion took place. The number 1 saddest thing I've ever seen happen to a place anywhere. Feel very privileged to have experienced Sihanoukville before all of this took place and was completely blindsided by the whole takeover and transformation. Drone footage is very well done but I can't make heads or tails out of the locations in the video.

I would have thought more like a short sharp shock, and believing that this is not going to happen, like other things in the Kingdom of Wonder, but it did. But I wonder if it had been approached in a more steady shuttle way if it would have been better. But that was not on the minds of the Chinese investors, nor the Khmer land owners. Still lost money for many and a good holiday destination.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

The sad thing is that that is seriously supposed to be a promotional video.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

This video had nothing to do with Otres Beach . It was all about a promotion video paid for by the developers of a mega hotel being built. Maybe some of you missed the half built building that was continuously in the middle if the screen.

Nuke it from orbit. Wait for radioactivity to die down. Start over. It's the only way.
