“Alimentation Couche-Tard”. What a silly name.

Total = French.
Circle K = French Canadian.

I thought Circle K was a cement company.

Anyways. It’s hardly a proper store stuck in a gas station.

Can anyone explain how they have 34 stores here already and this is their first "franchise"store? Are the rest all bogus? I don't know who to trust anymore. 8)

The existing stores are "corporate stores", i.e. directly owned by Circle K and run by their employees.

I thought the same, but then again, it's French.

How can couche-tard that translate by “who goes to bed late” sillier than the English “night owl”?

Actually the logo of Couche-Tard is a winking owl... As in "night own" (since most convenience stores are 24h). Couche-Tard means "Go to bed late", or something to that effect. Circle K is/was an American chain started a long time ago in Texas I believe, but was purchased by Couche-Tard several years ago and a way to expand into various markets. Some of you guys seem to have trouble following events..

Wow. Some people are way too serious.
In English “tard” is slang for retard.

See that's the thing, it's fine as long as you don't try to make sense of it in English since it's French.

Couch tart
Retard

Whatever comes to mind!
