Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. That's got to be novel, the Chinese run marathon's just the same has Cambodians, there could be competition, or bets being that Chinese are involved.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Yeah, I wonder about this. No one was injured but he does a runner...presumably to avoid arrest coz he was probably drunk.

So what happens now? Is he going to forfeit the car or does he humbly stroll back to the cop shop, admit he drove recklessly and pay compensation for a damaged road divider?

If they listened to me and my suggestion a while back, the police would now be the proud owners of a slightly crash damaged Prius. $1000 to fix then sell it for $10,000.

They are missing a trick with these drunken runaways - confiscate the car, no excuses accepted. It would end the problem very quickly.

Problem is, it doesn't go to 'the police', it goes to a policeman. Samnang will stroll into the station tomorrow, stone cold sober, weigh out the right person the right amount (which will be considerate but considerably less than a replacement Prius), drive home and have a long, hard think before he gets behind the wheel after half a bottle of black label next time. Everyone wins (well, no one actually except a drink driver and a corrupt official).

And therefore, it will keep happening.
