Man Kills Young Bride with a Rock

Cambodia News (Siem Reap): A shocking case of domestic violence occurred on December 19, 2020, at 9:30 pm, when a 36-year-old man, Pen Thean, a construction worker, killed his wife with a rock in Svay Dongkim village, Siem Reap. The victim is identified as Sim Sompos, 19 years old, from Banteay Meanchey.

The violence was caused by a argument between the couple. After the post mortem examination, the police concluded that the victim was murdered. The suspected killer is on the run and police are now searching for him.
The body was returned to the family for funeral preparation. RIP.

This is endless. Unless the authorities devise some serious punishment for even minor offences of domestic violence, these episodes will continue to escalate into fatalities. Nobody knows if he intended to kill her, but he did intend to hit her with a rock. That, in itself, should warrant a very hefty sentence.

He knows that if she dies he is in big trouble; he's not that stupid. But he also knows that if she just ends up bashed up a bit, he will most likely never even be troubled by the police. It seems only the most egregious beating attracts police attention, and only because someone else calls the police. It's noose or loose for the man, there's nothing in between.

Until routine domestic violence results in routine 5 year sentences, then this national pastime will continue to leave bodies on the floor every single week.
