Smartphone Thief Leaves his Face on CCTV
Cambodia News, (Battambang Province): One of the suspects who left a picture on the security camera while breaking into a mobile phone shop more than a week ago was arrested at 11:30 noon on December 17 at Sophy 1 village, Sangkat Rattanak, Battambang city. Police say that thieves broke into clothing stalls and mobile phone shops for 2 nights repeatedly.
The director of the Bureau of Minor Crimes, Chhoeung Kimsong, said that one of two suspects, Sim Chamrei, was detained by the intervention force. He is also known as Kob, 22 years old, lives in Sophy 1 Village, Sangkat Rattanak, Battambang City. One week ago, he stole 12 mobile phones from the shop owner.
After examining the security cameras, officers saw that at midnight on December 9, two suspects broke into the door of a mobile phone shop. But during the action, one of the men got caught in the security camera that the owner installed in front of the store. The suspect cut off the front door lock and stole 12 smartphones in the cupboard and escaped. But one week later, the Battambang police found the guy on the CCTV camera.
According to the confession of the perpetrator, Sim Chamroeun, alias Kop, he had indeed looted the victim's property and yes, the phones were stolen.
He said that after stealing, he sold the phones to a pawn shop in Battambang city. Some are sold at pawn shops around Wat Leap Market and some are sold at phone shops near Psar Leu bus stop.
