Koh Pous/Snake Island

Post by Sailorman »

While surfing the web I ran across business news that an American hotel/resort management/investment company is going to drop one billion dollars on the stalled Koh Pous (Russian leased) Island in Sihanoukville. I did some research on "Interstate Resorts and Hotels" and the American company is owned by the Chinese government. Its stated that they are going to have a casino, 4 star hotels, a 5 star hotel and a 6 star hotel. I've never heard of 5 and 6 star hotels.

I haven't yet seen any activity on the island and its bridge so far. (I live a stones throw from the bridge.) If this comes about, how are they going to get all the rich Chinese to this resort? I doubt that they will ride a bus from Phnom Penh to Snooky for 4 hours on the Death Highway to Hell (Route #4), and Vietnam's Cambodian Angkor Air only has a few leased turboprops and a couple leased airbus's. (Vietnam Air doesn't really want to fly tourists to snooky, but to their new airport on Phu Quoc Island.

On another business note, Nagaworld is buying three Airbus jets (they already have one) to fly Chinese to Phnom Penh to gamble.

The new large international rated airport in Snooky won't open to full international fights until there are enough hotel rooms - not fleabag guest houses. This project may push to the number needed (I don't recall the exact number anymore).

One Billion Dollars buys a lot of everything including local politician's/police cooperation and bridge updates. Landing fees (high in Cambodia) won't change until the government does and the French company (monopoly) is kicked out. Airaisa wanted to fly to Snooky, but the fees were too high. "Charter" jet flights out of China, like Nagaworld is doing look like a real option for the new resort. BTW/ Nagaworld already has one airbus jet to fly Chinese gamblers into Phnom Penh and is buying three more, they must be onto something.

Once it opens queenco will likely be jetting from China as well.

The bridge is closed but next week I'll grab a kayak and go shoot some pics of the place.

I have tried to get on there a few times. Despite loudly proclaiming "tovarisch" and pointing- they weren't having it.

I wanted to see the Dr No missile silo.
