Gendarme Commander Suspended for Blinding Man in a Fight
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The General Department of Military Service, on November 30, 2020, released the information that His Excellency General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Royal Khemarak has decided to suspend Brigadier General Sok Rithy, ID number 033330, from his post as Commander of the Gendarmerie Base, Sesan District, Stung Treng Province, as he faces court charges of aggravated violence.
Mr. Sok Rithy beat a man until he was blind during a fight at Stung Treng City Park recently.

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On February 16, 2023, the First Instance Court of Steung Treng province announced the sentences of Sok Rithy, the 46-year-old former Sesan district military police commander, and Mong Vanda for beating a male food seller during an altercation on November 7, 2020 in Prek Village, Stung Treng Province . As a result, the victim lost his sight.
The judge of the First Instance Court sentenced Sok Rithy, ex-gendarme commander, and Mong Vanda to six years in prison for intentional violence, with aggravating circumstances resulting in permanent disability, under Article 223 of the Penal Code.
