WiFi repeaters

Post by Freightdog »

In about 4 weeks, I should be heading home, only to face 2 weeks self isolation that conveniently ends on New Years Eve. As I have a load of work to do, and seemingly our new apartment will allow me some reasonable isolation, I may as well get on with some work in those two weeks.
Our Sing Meng service is struggling to reach everywhere in the apartment reliably, let alone with decent quality. As far as I can tell, I just need a repeater or two.

Is it worth buying something in Phnom Penh, or should I bring something from the UK?
Or is it worth having an alternative to sing Meng, and get a wireless point for use with 4G. In which case, which carrier? We do end up in the provinces from time to time, Krakor, but it’s hard to gauge what would work best.

It’s not massive data down/uploads, so a reliable and quick connection, occasional YouTube capable is all that I really need.

If you have a spare router kicking about, you might be able to use it as a repeater.

Came across this recently..maybe that's all you need and cheap enough. I haven't got one but I note there's lots of reviews and how to set it up via the Mi App on Youtube

Edit: Can also buy from Tech Zone on Sihanouk Blvd (st274) https://www.facebook.com/techzonegroup/ ... e_internal

Pass by Kampuchea Krom area get yourself a decent Cat5e or Cat6 UTP cable, run it from your router to your PC... Yes it's wired and it's visually messy but better than getting headaches with interference.
25 meters is about 15 USD for a Cat6 cable from gold one, don't forget to have it tested before you leave the shop.

No PC. MacBooks for me, and iPads. No Cat5/6 ports, either. All Wi-fi.
The repeaters mentioned in a previous reply seem a viable choice.
