Cambodia's vulnerability as the Covid economic slowdown continues to steamroll into 2021

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Exactly like the yellow fever vaccine was needed in the 70's if u traveled in South america, most of Africa.
bring back the yellow vaccine card

Am hopeful this will eliminate quarantines
I had one on my first trip to Sth America in 2008
Mine was lost soon after i left the peace corps in 81. it was full of every vaccine stamp one could get, as to be in Zaire, you needed tons of shots.

There has been no discussion, ( at least none i have seen, but it must be going on ) what they plan on giving people once they have been vaccinated< surely they need some sort of booklet showing you have been.
I wonder will this mean you wont need quarantine on arrival somewhere?
I assume even with the vaccine, international travel will require pre tests and test on arrival.

Its going to be a different time for travel for months/years......

Read somewhere, they dont expect international travel to be back to pre covid days till like 2023

So, with 1.5 billion Chinese, plus 750 million in the EU, plus 370 million in north America all ahead of them, plus every other country ponying up all it can muster for their share, I can't see much hope for Cambodia getting their jabs anytime soon and opening up and returning to normal.
Just as an aside: the EU has about 450 million.

You are correct. EU 446 million. Europe 747 million. Here's my source. Sloppy research, my bad.

Still a long bloody queue though :D

Europe 747 million

European Union 446 Million.

Wouldn't it be funny if the vaccine has a similar side effect. After all, Viagra was a blood pressure medication but it's side effect was much more lucrative.

not good news looking forward for those in the garment industry;
A government official said on November 22 that at least 110 garment factories had closed in the first nine months of the year and left more than 55,000 workers without jobs – but union leaders worry those numbers could be much higher.

Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training undersecretary of state Ngoy Rith said as of early September, 111 factories had closed in the garment, footwear and travel product sectors. He added the number of closures was similar to the first nine months of last year, when 110 factories closed.

“These closures have left 55,174 workers jobless. This job loss increased somewhat from the same period last year, which saw 53,226 workers laid off,” he said.

I do question why the same number as last year which was pre covid???
and how many of those closed last year started back up?

How would they come too the numbers, who would be counting and how. Would be reasonable if they were to get the number from tax payers, but then again someone now has too work, it's usual to get work like this from outside the country.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
