Does anybody know a bronze expert?
Burmese, Thai or Khmer bronze expert needed.
I am trying to date and place a set of 4 bronze figurines.
I seem to have gone as far as i can by myself. I think i have finally nailed the origin of the tradition they represent
- the Kinnara/ Kinnari figure. It stems from Burma out of the Himalayas.
BUT has strands coming down into Thai and Khmer tradition too.
These particular pieces are almost unique - having many elements of a few different styles - but after internet trawling thru 100s/1000s of images from Museum collections and fine arts dealers down to the antique stalls of South India, i have not yet found any exactly the same.
At least i have narrowed the field,
The big bulk of this stuff comes from late 1800s ish
They are worth about $100 bucks each, if from this period - probably more for a rare and particularly nice set.
Not fine detail, but beautiful living form.
MAY possibly be much older, i have found similar from 1000 AD - 1500 too.
I just want to know the story. (or a million bucks)
Any experts out there, or referrals?
please, thank you vm.
Maybe not just bronze expert, traditional classical clothing styles too??

From a hundred to a million bucks, quite a spread and it would definitely behoove you to know if they are worth the upper end. Radio dating, that's where they look at the ratio of radioactive isotopes to date things, might be available in Thailand, but probably not the other countries. There's the radiation research lab, named after a princess, in northern Bangkok not far from the old airport, but lots of other labs doing this listed in a search. Hope they make you rich(er)! Let us know what you find out.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 4:44 am Burmese, Thai or Khmer bronze expert needed.
