Strangled by debt': Covid deepens Cambodia's loan crisis

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Mmicrofinance was originally not intended to fund marriages, TV`s, Iphones and other non productive items. The money lent should have been invested in profitable business ideas that would have paid back more as the interest and the monthly installments cost. The lenders know that the money lent (=qucik cash) is mostly unproductively spent and are happily waiting to put their hands on the undervalued land that was used as a collateral. When the MFI will sell the land they now own (thats is after the loan taker has failed to repay) the total profit on the initially borrowed amount will be x-fold. Most MFI's in Cambodia have done more damage than benefit IMHO.

How many mate's have you lent a guid to never to see it again?
As a mortgage broker you do care as you get the trailer commission for 25-30 years on home loans that's the bolk of your income
Wow mate its a long time since I have seen a guid. How old are you?
