Why do we keep talking about heat? Isn't an acid burn the result of corrosion tissue damage rather than generated heat? Unless they microwaved it first or something...

Because it's easier for Joe Public to understand in this context than 'reactive energy', and the reaction does generate heat in the tissue.OrangeDragon wrote:Why do we keep talking about heat? Ok, finally found somewhere referencing secondary thermal burns as a result of carbohydrate dehydration... it's omitted from most of the descriptions of a skin contact reaction, which makes me thing the concentration would have to be fairly high for there to be any significant effect.
[EDIT: They were specifically referencing 98% H2SO4... something the Khmer wouldn't be using.]

I just wrote a strong response and then deleted it - well done on finding your reference.OrangeDragon wrote:Ok, finally found somewhere referencing secondary thermal burns as a result of carbohydrate dehydration... it's omitted from most of the descriptions of a skin contact reaction, which makes me thing the concentration would have to be fairly high for there to be any significant effect.
