Cambodia News,(Kandal Province): A suspected drug dealer/user is in an armed stand off with Kandal armed forces this evening, 10 Nov 2020. He continues to shoot at the authorities. However, the authorities have taken measures to protect themselves and other people, as the suspect fired shots at them several times.

Major General Chhoeun Socheat, Kandal Provincial Police Commissioner, who directly led the Anti-Drug Police Force, Saang District Police Force and the Provincial Criminal Police Force, confirmed this at 6:45 pm on November 10, 2020. He confirmed they were earlier concerned about a hostage situation, but that his forces have now freed the suspect's wife from where she was hiding, and their child has gone to the grandparents' house.

The suspect is named Lean Tith, 30 years old. As the standoff was continuing into the evening, Major General Chhoeun Socheat said that his forces were prepared to wait until the suspect runs out of bullets before attempting to take him into custody, and that their principal concern was to avoid loss of life.

Unless he holds the gun at 45 degrees it’s unlikely to travel 1 mile especially in a wooded area.

Cambodia News, Kandal: At 1:50 AM on November 11, 2020, the drug ringleader holed up in a house in Saang district was arrested and evacuated by police after he reportedly received a flesh wound to his right thigh.


This incident began on the afternoon of November 10, 2020 at Thkol village, Troeuy Sla commune, Saang district, Kandal province, and lasted about 12 hours before it was resolved.

A man suspected of trafficking drugs was wounded after he exchanged gunfire with police in Kandal province on November 10.

The suspect, who was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and shot in the leg during the raid, is being treated at the Chey Chumneas Referral Hospital in Kandal province’s Takhmao town.

Provincial police chief Chhoeun Sochet told The Post on November 12 the suspect was under strict police guard.

More than 100 police officers took part in the arrests of the 27-year-old.

His wife and two daughters were also present at the house in Thkol village, in Sa’ang district’s Troeuy Sla commune.

Sochet led his forces to the house at around 2pm on November 10 but did not detain him until the early hours of November 11. The man shot 20 rounds at the police who fired back until he was hit.

“We tried not to exchange fire with the suspect but were forced to do so in self-defence,” he said.

Commune police chief Puy Try said police were able to arrest the man once he was shot.
