Kampot 2005?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. I don't recall, but the two were always together, unless Gary was at the casino. They wanted to ban him at one point because he usually won. Just before I left he won a motorbike. There is a another pic of him at the Dolphin Shack under Snooky 2005? but it is difficult to see him. He is in the middle at Sokha pic.

Kampot is by far my favourite place in all of Cambodia. I spend quite a lot of time there and my dream is to move there when the time is right. Not sure what it is about the place. I love the laid-back atmosphere, probably due mostly to the beautiful river and surrounding hills / countryside.
I like it that there are places you can sit and have a drink and there's a real village atmosphere yet the place itself isn't too small to be boring and dull. The French architecture also adds to the ambience of the place.
Plus the fact that it's only 3 hours from PP if you ever need to pop back to the city for any reason.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

I've got loads of pictures of Kampot and Kep provinces, but these were the only ones I could find of the city from 2005.

Image
This was apparently a derelict mental asylum, there was one mental guy who still squatted there. He used to wander around nude and stand beside people till they paid him to go away.

Just the street outside the English run hotel I stayed there a few times.

The riverside in Kampot in 2006.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Actually (and I was living there at the time) Grumpy Dave exited the country for Thailand via KK border after colliding head on with a motodop going the wrong way on a pitch black street. Apparently knocked the guys head off. After a quick trip home for passport and any cash left he jumped in the jeep and headed for the first border opening the next morning. No one heard much from him after that. Understandable in the circumstances.
