UK News, Updates and Discussion

Does anyone even understand what the problem is here ?

It perhaps wasn’t the best in terms of timing, but hey, if there was nothing to offend people, life would be inherently more boring lol
So, the BBC, the most woke of all media outlets, decides to join in the ridicule of an advert as it gives them a chance to criticise the Tory government. However, this is exactly the type of woke crap the BBC would come up with themselves for one of their drama shows; 'Fat Fatima from Bradford wants to be a professional ballet dancer but is prevented by racist, sexist and classist fascists in the ballet hierarchy'

Indeed, they even got a quote from the shadow mental health minister (yes, we have one of them - didn't you know?) which perfectly proves this point:
Shadow mental health minister Dr Rosena Allin-Khan tweeted: "Fatima, you be you. Don't let anyone else tell you that you aren't good enough because you don't conform to their preconceived social norms."
She clearly doesn't understand her brief very well but her name does fit nicely into the woke sub text.

You show me a female ballet dancer that is actually called Fatima, and I will find you an unbiased and balanced BBC journalist.

We were cut off snow wise for 3 weeks in 1975 and the army landed helicopters with essential supplies just in front of our mansion/castle. Toasting bread on a 4 burner freezing our nuts off and digging our way out of 7 foot snow drifts.

Absolutely brilliant. No internet, no facebook. We had a radio and that was it. What a great place and adventure to grow up in as a kid.

I would of thought that somewhere remote in the highlands was a pretty good place to hang out during the second wave. A huge shopping trip once a fortnight, bracing 6 mile walks every day over challenging terrain and pubs to far away to be tempting; seems like a health farm on the cheap. I could do with a month of that right now to be honest.

From the article...

However, student David Lewes, 21, said he and four housemates used the tests without realising they were not new.

"We are really distressed, shocked, violated and one of my friends threw up after finding out they had been used before," he said.

The third-year University of Birmingham student said the council team dropped the test off at their home in Tiverton Road on Tuesday evening saying they would return a few minutes later to collect them.

What next? Bedwetting? Fuckin snowflakes...

Well what can you expect for £10bn

Covid-19: Campaigners demand to see contracts for £10bn track and trace services
BMJ 2020; 370 doi: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.m3037 (Published 30 July 2020) Cite this as: BMJ 2020;370:m3037

More than 100 public figures, including public health experts, academics, journalists, and trade union leaders, have written to England’s health and social care secretary demanding that he publish details of the contracts given to private companies to run the national test and trace system for covid-19.1

The open letter to Matt Hancock, published on 29 July, said that £10bn of public money had been allocated for the test and trace system in England but that more than £9bn of funding was still unaccounted for, and “only £300m additional funding has been offered to local authorities across England to support the system.”

Documents published by the Treasury show that the UK government has so far spent £10bn (€11.2bn; $12.7bn) on its much derided covid-19 test and trace programme. Private companies such as Serco, Sitel, and Capita are among those awarded contracts to run the programme.2
