Grandpa Stabs Wife to Death for Refusing 5000 Riels
Cambodia News (Pursat): On September 27, 2020, a 70-year-old man, Vath Sarun, an alcoholic, stabbed his wife to death during a quarrel, when she refused to give him 5000 riels to buy drink in Outhkov village, Sangkat Leab, Pursat. The victim was identified as Seang Khun, 59 years old.
The local people said the victim and her husband seemed good for each other, but sometimes they were drunk together and argued with each other. On September 27, the couple had a fight because the husband wanted to take 5000 riels to buy alcohol, but his wife refused to give him the money. So he took a knife and stabbed his wife to death.
The suspect was then arrested and sent to the police station following the legal procedure.

In Khmer relationships where the woman controls all the money, does the man need to ask each and every time for money, or does he receive a daily allowance?
When the husband asks his wife for money, does he need to prove the cost of items purchased, and give any change her might receive back to his wife?

Re: Grandpa Stabs Wife to Death for Refusing 5000 Riels
Umm... the Khmer man spends the payday money before giving whatever remains to the wife. If she’s angry during the payday period, she gets nothing.
Therefore, wife has to stop being angry before payday so she can collect.
As to receipts as proof of only spending that amount for beer, etc., it may be a matter of trust, both ways.
In general, Khmer women have the responsibility of spending for the entire family, while the man for himself.
