Drunkard Bangs Pagoda Drum and Shoots a Monk
Cambodia News, Banteay Meanchey Province: According to the report, a case of intentional violence occurred at 1:30 am on September 24, 2020, caused by a man drinking alcohol who walked into Wat Tung Skor, causing a surprise to the monks, who chased the man away. The suspect also used an arrow to shoot a monk in the chest, causing serious injuries, and he was sent to Hold Mongkul Borey Hospital.
According to the report, the suspect was Phim Veasna, a 36-year-old man living in Ponley village, Ponley commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province. The victim, a 39-year-old monk named Chamroeun, lived in Ponlea Chey pagoda, Ponley village, Ponley commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province.
The same source said that before the incident, the suspect had been drinking alcohol all day in the village next to the pagoda. Until, late at night, he walked into Ponlea Chey pagoda and climbed on the big pavilion, grabbed a stick and began to beat the drum. It was like declaring an emergency that something has happened, so all the monks came running.
The same source said that when the suspect saw the monks in the pagoda chasing him, he fired a shot and hit a monk with an arrow in his chest.
Immediately after receiving the information about the incident, the Phnom Srok District Inspectorate, in cooperation with the Ponley Administration, went around the village to search for the drunken suspect. Finally, at 4 am on September 24, the man was arrested and taken into custody. After questioning, the suspect was charged with intentional violence against a monk and he will be taken to court.
