Banking between UK and KH

Post by dan.phillips »

Hi
My 2 UK banks (Lloyd's and Starling) don't recognise Cambodia as a country so I can't transfer to or from my ABA. Do you have any ideas of a bank in each nation who work together?

I dont see why. All you need is ABA's SWIFT code which you can get from them and the name of one of their correspondent banks which they will also provide.

You can. But the exchange rates plus routing fees get a bit exorbiatant. The added complication is that with ABA, and SACOMBANK, for instance are actually routing through Vietnam. So the codes don’t immediately match up. HSBC in the UK had immense difficulty understanding this, and were unhelpful. Lloyd’s managed it, briefly.

I use foreign currency trading- setup a trading account, then use UK£ to buy US$ which are sent to ABA (routing via Standard Chartered). It seems cumbersome, but once setup, is fairly straight forward and easily repeatable.

PureFx/foreign currency direct, I’ve been using for years, when paid in another country and bring the funds into the UK.

XE (from my iPad) has also worked quite well, although some folk believe there’s some background scam, I’ve not seen any issue.
