Australian Passport Renewal?

Post by rozzieoz »

Hi everyone,
Have any Australians had to renew their passports during the pandemic?
I am going to the embassy next week to renew mine, just want to be prepared if there is any weird stuff I should know about.
I have ten months left on my passport so there is plenty of time.

I have the completed application form, current passport, fee for ten-year renewal plus overseas surcharge and two photos.
I assume I will have to wear a mask.

Any useful information welcomed, thank you.

I look a bit pissed off in my passport pic after they rejected my very nice selfies, and had to traipse up to Sihanouk to get new pics done. So I suggest you take your hairbrush etc just in case this happens.

Also, given you have so much time left on your passport, I'd wait as long as you can (visa EOS notwithstanding) because you can't go anywhere except Australia during its last 6mo, and it's unlikely you're going to realistically go anywhere else for the next 10 months. But yeah if your EOS is due then yeah, you'll need to renew it.

It's going to cost me $55 or so each month to renew my visa, unless I get the EOS for a year. I need to renew my passport before I can get that one.
Helluva process.

Needed to renew passport as not enough time left to do EOS in September.
Step 1. Complete Online application.
Step 2. Print off a couple of copies.
Step 3. Make appointment online to lodge application.
Step 4. Go to Photographer to get photos taken. ( Make sure correct size)
Step 5. Attend at Embassy to lodge and pay.
Step 6. Almost spit the dummy at admin dick who says "Photo not clear. Need better photo " gives card for preferred location (attached)
Step 7. Get pissed off when he states not sure that they will accept the new $100 notes so will record the numbers.
Step 8 go get photos done again.
Step 9. Return to Embassy with new photos and lodge them. As I had to print full name on back of one photo I did so and put them separately through the "tunnel" He picked them up together and smudged the ink on the back onto photo number two. Then has the hide to say this is not good enough can you give me another one. FFS....... Then I need to sign my name and date the application form. Woe is me because I touched the top of the signature box...... do it again. (Not having a good day) ok I give then I get receipt and leave before I say something that could jeopardise my passport processing.

So In short do it by the numbers and you should be fine. Get photos done by Good Luck and they will cost 6000 Riel for 8 and will be accepted.
