Covid and environmental concerns fuel expansion of Plant based meats in Thailand

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Covid and environmental concerns fuel expansion of Plant based meats in Thailand

might have to give it a try...
Charoen Pokphand Foods Pcl (CPF) will be rolling out plant-based meat products this year in response to growing demand, as well as operate using circular economy principles in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). For Thailand’s largest agribusiness company to shift its focus to sustainability and plant-based foods signals tidal change amongst mainstream consumers in Asia.
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand’s largest agribusiness firm, Charoen Pokphand Foods Pcl (CPF), will introduce plant-based meat substitutes this year in response to growing customer demand and changes in behavior, a top executive said on Tuesday.
Chief executive Prasit Boondoungprasert told Reuters in an interview that the products would be sold first in Thailand this year, before being rolled out across the rest of Asia.

“There is a global trend of ‘flexitarians’ - people who have vegetarian meals once or twice a week,” he said. Restaurants will also want to offer this option to their diners, he said.

According to market research firm Mintel, over half of metropolitan Thai consumers are now looking to reduce meat consumption – and of this sample, 45% are specifically aiming to follow a strictly vegetarian or vegan diet.
Sizzler, the budget-friendly steakhouse chain from California, has just altered its traditionally meat-heavy menu in a major way: Starting today, its restaurants in Thailand are serving meat-free, plant-based entrees that will ensure customers — be they carnivores, vegans, vegetarians or flexitarians — can walk away with full stomachs.

The four plant-based additions are grouped under the concept “Taste the Future,” and will be available at dozens of Sizzlers branches across Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket through the end of 2019. It’s the first time the restaurant has released any plant-based options to customers in Thailand.
HONG KONG: Starbucks Corp said on Tuesday it will add plant-based food and beverages to menus across Asia from September, including products from Impossible Foods, Oatly and Beyond Meat Inc, as it targets more environment-conscious diners.

The Seattle-based coffee chain said it was introducing products in markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Taiwan and Thailand that suit local tastes and preferences.

Producing plant-based food and beverages is less demanding on the environment compared with items relying on animal agriculture, which typically needs far more land and water.

Question;
are vegans less violent/agressive than meat eaters?
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
