Three arrested in HCMC over 50 kg drug haul

Three people in HCMC were arrested Wednesday for allegedly trafficking around 50 kg of narcotics from Cambodia.

Bui Thi Kieu Loan, 35, Nguyen Hoang Tu, 36, and Pham Dinh Nhan, 43, were carrying two boxes of fruit in Go Vap District on Wednesday morning when caught by local police.

Around 30 kg of meth, 10 kg of ketamine, 4.9 kg of heroin, and 20,000 ecstasy pills were found hidden inside the boxes.

A search of Loan's house revealed more illegal substances.
The investigation is ongoing.

Vietnam busts drug trafficking ring from Cambodia

HO CHI MINH CITY (Xinhua): Police of southern Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have cracked down a ring smuggling over 47 kg of drugs from Cambodia to the country, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday (Sept 10).

Three traffickers, aged 35 to 43, were caught red-handed on Sept 2 receiving the drug contained in two fruit boxes from a transporter they hired at a market in the city.

The drugs included nearly 30 kg of crystal methamphetamine, over 9.2 kg of ketamine, 15 cakes of heroin and 20,000 ecstasy tablets, according to the report.

Further investigation is underway.

As stipulated in Vietnamese laws, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.

Insane amounts turn up in these busts. Makes you wonder though because that's only a fraction of what is actually flowing around.
