Fukushima is f*cked
Fukushima is f*cked
Vice TV just did an episode on the current conditions at the former Fukushima nuclear power plant. The radioactive remains of the melted nuclear core still have to be cooled with sea water 24/7. But once the water passes through the system to cool it, the water becomes highly radioactive and must be stored on site. There are now thousands and thousands of massive, quickly built, steel holding tanks for the deadly, used cooling water, and more required to be built every day with NO end in sight. Many of those storage tanks are already leaking. There is no existing technology to decontaminate all that water. They will soon run out of room to build any more storage tanks. Something has got to give. All that toxic water will have to be released back into the sea eventually.

Yeah, and last I heard, the Japanese, with a their pride, are refusing to let foreign experts in to help out in what has always been a very global catastrophe. Shameful. We should all be working together to find a solution to this.

Slightly off topic.
I had to admire the efforts of a group of retired Japanese engineers and other workers over sixty five who volunteered to work at ground zero at Fukishima with the attitude they had lived most of their lives already, and should they develop any form of cancer due to exposure, by the time it was at an advanced stage they would be at the end of their life anyway.
