British Man NICHOLAS HYETT Found Dead in Kampot Motorbike Accident
Cambodia News, Kampot: On the night of August 26, 2020, some local men found the body of a foreigner near a motorcycle in the water under a bridge that crosses the canal along the road to Teuk Chhou resort. The location of the incident is in O Touch village, Sangkat Andong Khmer, Kampot city.
Authorities said that the man, NICHOLAS HYETT, 48, is a British national residing in Cambodia and has a Filipino wife living in Kampong Kandal village, Chum Kriel, Teuk Chhou District, Kampot Province.
Sources said that at about 9:30 p.m*., two young men on a motorcycle stopped to urinate near the bridge. They saw the motorbike in the water, so they called to the villagers to come and see if there was anyone wounded in the accident. When the villagers arrived at the scene and searched, they found a foreign man lying face down in the water near the motorcycle, so they hurried to pick him up out of the water and put him on the bank.
The Kampot authorities were then notified of the decease. The police arrived and the body was taken away for a post mortem examination.
The authorities concluded that the victim was driving his motorcycle at high speed and he missed the bridge and drove into the canal.
RIP and condolences to his family and friends.
Photos from Khmer news have been put in the darknet section.
*The body of the deceased was discovered at around 21:30 on same evening as the accident, and not at 9:30am, as was incorrectly reported earlier by an English language social media site.

A British expat has died in a motorbike accident after plunging into a canal in Cambodia.
The 48-year-old man missed a bridge while riding his motorcycle 'at speed' and his body was later found in the water by two other motorcyclists.
The man had been living in Cambodia with a Filipino wife, it is believed.
The accident occurred on the road to the resort of Teuk Chhou in the city of Kampot in southern Cambodia.
The body of the 48-year-old man was found near the motorbike in the water of the canal on Wednesday evening.
Local media says two men had parked their motorcycle to urinate near the bridge when they saw the British man's bike in the water.
They then asked others to help search the area and the group then found the man's body face-down in the water.
They picked him out of the water and placed his body on the bank of the canal before calling the local authorities.
The body was taken for a post-mortem, which found that the man had been driving his motorbike at high speed when he missed the bridge.
There were no witnesses to the accident.
Local authorities said the British man had a Filipino wife living in the Teuk Chhou district of Kampot Province.

Funny how they are absolutely certain of the cause of the accident without having video surveillance or eyewitnesses, yet can only 'believe' he had been living with his Filipina wife, which would seem to be so much more easily verified.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 9:32 pm British tabloid version of the fatal accident:
