KTV is a Brothel, Not a Restaurant

Cambodia News (Kampong Speu): On August 28, 2020, the Kampong Speu police raided a KTV named Reatey Chummeth for suspected sex work. The KTV belonged to a 41-year-old man, Sorn Sim, who lives in Svay Teap village, Oral district, Kampong Speu.

The KTV was operating despite the governor's instructions that all KTVs must now be changed into restaurants.
The police found evidence that the KTV was working as a brothel, such as a pile of used condoms and some pornography. Three women victims were released and sent to the Women's Rehabilitation Center.

Major Kim Heng, deputy chief of Kampong Speu Provincial Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department, identified the accused as Sorn Sim, 41, karaoke owner in Trapaing Chor commue’s Svay Teab village.

He said Sim was charged with “procurement of prostitution” under Article 26 of the Law on Suppression
of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation. He faces between two and five years in prison if found guilty.

Police detained three masseuses aged 16 and 19 who were sex workers in the shop, he said, adding police also seized related evidence such as a notebook of guests and used and unused condoms from their rooms.
