PHUKET: THAI Airways International will launch direct charter flights to Phuket from six international destinations – Denmark, Germany, England, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong – around the end of November, the airline’s Acting President Chansin Treenuchagron has announced.
Each route will fly approximately two flights or more per month, depending on passenger demand, MrChansin said in a release issued today (Aug 27).

“In order to boost the national tourism industry, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) will operate chartered flights to Phuket from six destinations: Denmark, Germany, England, Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. THAI also plans to fly tourists from the People’s Republic of China to Phuket,” said the release.

Thailand will not be fully reopened to foreign tourists along the lines of the so-called “Phuket Model” any time soon because the government has to consider too many details, deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Friday (August 28).

She added that the government needs to consider many factors, including guidelines, screening processes and measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to ensure there is no second wave of infections.

She added that Phuket residents and Thai tourists can rest assured that no steps to reopen the country have been taken and that utmost precaution will be taken when borders are reopened.

Really, you have 3 options. Leave the country before the amnesty finishes. Or find a way to extend your visa. If you are unable to leave the country, because of flight issues returning to your country, or some other medical or urgent reason, you should contact your Embassy or Consulate ASAP. They may be able to provide you with a letter recommending an extension of your stay.

The third option is to visit a temple, buy a lottery ticket and hope like hell that the government will extend the amnesty again. At this stage that appears unlikely.

Foreign arrivals could be downgraded from a projection of 8 million this year and 16 million next year given the deflated tourism outlook, said Don Nakornthab, senior director of the economic and policy department.

The loss cannot be computed directly into full-year GDP calculations because there are other economic factors to be considered, he said.

Thailand received no foreign tourist arrivals for the fourth consecutive month in July as international travel restrictions remain in place to safeguard against a second outbreak.

Foreign arrivals to Thailand reached 40 million in 2019, with revenue generated from the tourism industry contributing almost 20% of GDP.
