Amrican born and Billionaire Thai citizen, Mr. Heinecke cannot have his coup and eat it too

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Amrican born and Billionaire Thai citizen, Mr. Heinecke cannot have his coup and eat it too

Post by phuketrichard »

Mr. William E Heinecke, the 23rd richest person in Thailand, has decided to speak out publicly. He wants media reports to portray the post-coup situation positively, otherwise, there are negative effects on tourism.

His open letter backing the coup and the actions of the junta, though, exposes at best a remarkable naiveté or at worst a sort of cynical insensitivity that knowingly ignores the serious human rights situation facing many Thais today.

In a way, it seems pointless to counter his perspective, but I believe that as he chosen to step forward and make a public statement, then his view deserves an equally public response.

The guy has lived in Thailand since age 14. He owns a multitude of hotel and restaurant chains, He is part of the establishment and thinks his best interest is what is best for Thailand. Just like the pillow guy in the States, it is good to have a brown tongue.

He sure is a special cookie, not many people would be willing to renounce their Western citizenship to live their life as a full-blown Thai. It obviously seems to work for him and he's a self-made billionaire, so while I certainly disagree with his view, I can respect that it makes sense from the lofty place he dwells at.

This man Mr. Heinecke shows you the basic complicity between capital and militarism that still dominates the entire planet. People like Elon Musk, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, etc, are all equally complicit with the capitalist acquiescence to militarism. Even the smooth-talking Obama was a happy killer of many via his encouragement of drone execution programs. You don't have to be a great big Ronald Raygun or CIA Georgie Bush to have had the fun of killing illiterate Latin American tools... You can be any shareholder in some major industrial fund, today: big league investors are quite likely to coddle the likes of Raytheon, General Dynamics, BAE, etc, etc...

As for the Thai situation, look what happened right here in Cambodia only a couple of months ago; and this horrendous event seems to have gone completely unremarked here in Cambodia's papers, and also not a word about it in Thailand. The story made barely but a brief blip on the Western press radar... This poor man, Wanchalearm Satsaksit, a comedian who simply satirized the Thai establishment, was snatched off the street in Phnom Penh, in broad daylight, and has not been heard from since! This is like the dark days of the Argentine or Chilean dictators back in the 70s, but nobody even seems to notice how bad the Thai establishment really is!

I wonder what this Heinecke would say if you asked him what he thought about the abduction and murder of innocent artists like this unfortunate and obviously nice man? Even during the darkest days in Burma, the military did not dare to kill the comedians! The Thai establishment is obviously too shameless and insane to give a shit about anything but holding onto power...

Heinecke is a self made man and whatever he may think, he is not one of "the common people"
but he is one of the elite in Thailand
Concern the 2014 coup it will be argued about for a long time..

Good to see you are on your toes.... Richard... And I forgot to mention Putin, who can also kill with impunity, like the Thai dictator and American presidents...

I thank you...
