Captive Woman's Dramatic Escape from Phnom Penh Hotel

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The bad news is that the Chinese will only increase in numbers, & Chinese-committed crimes will continue to rise

UPDATE

Cambodia News: There a few corrections to the original news post. The captive woman is a Vietnamese national, and when she was trying to escape through the window, one of the kidnappers saw her and sliced the sheet with a knife. The woman then fell on to the glass roof below, injuring herself badly. She has been identified as NGUYỄN THỊ HOÀI THƯƠNG, a 32-year-old Vietnamese woman.

When the police came to investigate the incident, they also found a Chinese man in the room, who had been tied up and tortured by the kidnappers. Six people were held for questioning, and three hotel guests have been arrested for kidnapping and extortion.
Image
Daun Penh District Authority said that the above operation was led by Mr. Sok Penh Vuth, Daun Penh District Governor and Mr. Teang Chansar, Daun Penh District Inspector, who conducted a search of the hotel premises and the authorities have decided to temporarily close this hotel until further notice.

Scum of the EARTH ... seems to be a big dichotomy: Cambodia needs China as they are a weak country with tendencies towards appeasing the regional powers (China now but previous Indian and Vietnam) ... but such a ripe ground for the criminal element of China = # BLACK EYE on Cambodia.

I find it disturbing that the suspects' names are not mentioned but the victim's passport (minus the #) is online. Who is being protected here?
