I really have to laugh when people say the Thai government implements these extreme virus elimination measures because they care about their people and want to avoid tens of thousands of "unnecessary" deaths. If they really cared, they would have been busy reducing the road kill year after year.
even with increased traffic stops and checkponts during holidays, numbers increase.
I see more and more kids, ( like 10-14) riding around on bikes with 1-2 of their friends on the back.
More and more over loaded pickups in the news having accidents, more an more trucks/bus's also involved in deaths.
wait and see what the numbers are for the last week of this month with the upcoming 4 day holiday
At one point while sitting on the the terrace of a Darkside bar, I watched a young woman rider one-hand her motorcycle and hold a small baby against her left shoulder. And . . . helmets? What helmets? Shot this photo below on Nern Plub Waan a few nights ago. At first I guessed 30-40% of riders were hatless. As the minutes passed, I moved my guess up to 60-70%. Down on Khao Noi easily 80% rode without helmets. They don't understand the consequences of their mad behaviour. I remember commuters arriving at Sukhumvit on their way to the beach side and stopping to finally don a helmet only to avoid police fines.

Police dont check anymore since 4 months, no alkohol, helmet check etc. Responsibility is a word thais aren't aware of , NOT for others NOT for themselves.

Thai Cabinet extends the visa amnesty for foreigners
so rejoice for some stuck here butThe Thai Cabinet has extended the visa amnesty for foreigners so they can remain in Thailand during the Covid-19 global pandemic. This is the second extension to the visa amnesty and will be a huge relief for tens of thousands of people who have been in a visa limbo, some without many other options other than staying in Thailand whilst international flights remain limited.
A government spokeswoman, Traisuree Taisaranakul, says that the automatic visa extension will now be in force until September 26, as rumoured. Mandatory 90 day reporting for resident foreigners with ongoing visas will also be suspended until September 26.
At this stage there has not been any additional provisions or paperwork announced, other than a general extension of the current amnesty.
The announcement will assist tourists and visitors who found themselves stranded in Thailand due to travel restrictions, as well as providing extra time for people to make arrangements and take advantage of repatriation flights or opportunities to head home.

Covid will be all around the world for the next few years, may as well lock the country down until 2023 and stop pissing about with these monthly extensions...

The government in Thailand can not admit that their actions not a virus are the problem so they have to keep doubling down on stupid. Thailand is not the only country with this issue.

Why aren't the regular Thais complaining though?

Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
If this goes thru, means the end of tourism in Thailand until.....
also as a side note
Burma, Laos & Cambodia are seldom destination countries for westerns but added on to a trip to Thailand.
this will put a stopper in tourism in the region..

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/all- ... e-ministerThailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Pipat Ratchakitprakan, is reassuring Thais by explaining that all foreigners, regardless of their status or origins, will have to serve a mandatory 14 day quarantine, at least “in the foreseeable future”.

Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
That is the intent, no more mass tourism anywhere ever again. In future it will be expensive and a huge hassle to travel. Most people will be lucky to make an overseas trip once or twice a decade.
