Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On June 19, 2020, at 7 pm, an unidentified man drove a Lexus car, plate no. PP2AU-2064, and hit a member of the traffic police in Sangkat Chom Chao, Khan Porsenchey, Phnom Penh.

Before the incident, the Lexus car was driven by a man on national road 4 in the direction from west to east, and then at Chom Chao roundabout, the car hit a traffic policeman on the road, causing him to get injured. The man drove the car away, trying to escape, but he was detained by the police and the local people. The man didn't get out of the car to sort the problem out. He called his family for help.

The police took the car and the driver to the police station to sort the problem out.

Municipal traffic bueau chief Sem Ratana identified the suspect as Puth Monorom.

“We sent the case to the Municipal Court, but we don’t know what the court’s decision will be. He drove very fast, caused a traffic police official to fall [the official did not sustain serious injuries] and he did not listen to traffic police’s advice,” Ratana said.

Municipal Court spokesperson Kuch Kimlong said on Monday that deputy court prosecutor Long Cheab is working on this case.

According to the report, Monorom is being accused of three offences – distracting police during work, using a fake car number plate and attempting to flee the scene.

Bets are on for his sentence/fine amount.$$. When I was in Kampot about 5 or 6 months back, a truck driver seriously injured a traffic cop at the bad crossroads by new bridge. He was obviously poor, I wonder what happened to him in court, anyone hear?
