The end of tourism?
an interesting read ...
https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2020 ... tI0QlvD_PY
For sure tourism as many of us have known it, will be a thing of the past.
The pandemic has devastated global tourism, and many will say ‘good riddance’ to overcrowded cities and rubbish-strewn natural wonders. Is there any way to reinvent an industry that does so much damage?
Covid-19 has exposed the flaw in the model of elite tourism with a conscience. There is no plan B.On 7 May, the UN World Tourism Organisation suggested that the coronavirus crisis would squeeze the industry so hard that progress towards making tourism sustainable – principally by reducing overcrowding and addressing climate change – would be not just halted but reversed. Indeed, since the start of the crisis, airlines and cruise companies have been lobbying hard for tax breaks and the lifting of environmental measures.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Re: The end of tourism?
No it won't. It'll be back, might just take six months, a year, or two years, but it'll be back.

I am with Lexus here: it’ll be back stronger than before. The question is when.

Just look at the economic support doled out by some richer countries over the past few months. The 1200 for US citizens is a drop in the ocean compared to what Germany and the UK have been giving out.
There are a people bored out of their minds sitting on a growing pile of free cash they cannot use. How else will they waste it?

I don't think that's a sure thing. It could still go many ways, and I think the most likely scenario is a return to tourism as we know it. One way or another, this pandemic will be yesterday's news - eventually.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 1:58 pm For sure tourism as many of us have known it, will be a thing of the past.

A business owner friend in SHV said he’s seen a big increase in Chinese, mostly business men or works returning from an extended CNY.
Some have re-opened their businesses already.

Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.
