Kampot Expat Woman Attacked by Bag Snatchers at Midday (UPDATED)

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News, Kampot: A Kampot expat woman has reported a bag snatching close to Kampot riverside and town center at midday yesterday. The woman said that two teenagers on a motorbike snatched her bag while she was driving on the road from the riverfront toward the lotus pond by the Kampot museum. She fell from her bike as a result of the attack and has slight injuries to her knee and a shoulder.

Fortunately, it was not worse, and we wish her a swift recovery. Be careful everyone, especially if you are a woman alone on a motorcycle with a bag. This sort of aggression in broad daylight is unusual in Kampot, but there are many people out of work so be extra careful.

This was posted on Kampot Noticeboard two days ago, and several of the comments state that other expats have been victims of phone snatchers in Kampot recently.
Kampot used to be a sleepy little town, but more crimes are being reported on social media lately, in particular, phone and bag snatching from people on motorbikes.

Take care of your gear when riding a bike around town, even in the daytime.

Heads Up: Posted tonight on Kampot social media.
Dear fellow Kampotians..Beware..there is a motocycle gang snatching bags.
Two people I know ,both on bicycles..have had this experience.and both sustained injuries trying to hold onto their bags.
One got attacked along the TukChung rd just after the railroad..the other on the Kep Rd.Sounds like the same gang. Take care.!!
The two robberies occurred last night and tonight, and are believed to be the work of the same two thieves on a motorbike.

Don't drive too slow so they are not able to grab you and don't drive to fast or you won't see the obstacle they have put in the middle of the road. You have to drive between both speeds.🤪

Heads up Kampoters!
These two reports were posted on the Kampot social media page today, 28 November 2020.
Two expats were targeted by a gang of three men on a motorbike in violent robbery attempts. Many people believe that this is the same gang at work. They may be the same lot who were also doing bag snatchings, but if so, they have now become more violent.
A meeting between expat victims and local police was organized today.

Take care all. Do not walk alone at night.

What was the outcome of the meeting with the police, was there any solution to this ongoing problem of theft, that clearly turned out too be that of a violent time for one victim.
I would have thought that the place it is, being a wonderful place to visit for Khmer and forginer it would not warrant this type of behavior to tar it's reputations.
