Beheaded Remains of Rare Gaur Found in Mondulkiri
Cambodia News (Mondulkiri): In the second week of May, a conservation patrol team from the Ministry of Environment found a skeleton of a gaur. The carcasse had been beheaded and the head and horns removed. The officer determined that the gaur might have been killed about a month ago.
The conservation officers requested that the population help to protect wildlife for the next generation, and that people stop hunting rare and protected species which are the heritage of all Cambodians.

Re: Beheaded Remains of Rare Gaur Found in Mondulkiri
Is there any evidence that it was killed, rather than had died? I should imagine hunters/poachers would have butchered it for the meat. The head could have been removed any time post mortem, perhaps somebody on discovering the decaying carcass and decided to take and preserve the skull and/or horns for an ornament.

Mondulkiri authorities on track to arrest gaur, banteng killers
Khouth Sophak Chakrya | Publication date 17 May 2020 | 21:39 ICT
Mondulkiri provincial Department of Environment director Keo Sopheak told The Post on Sunday that authorities are continuing to gather evidence to arrest the offenders who shot and killed a gaur and two banteng, which are rare and endangered species.
Two female banteng were found dead on Thursday in an economic land concession (ELC) at the Lim Royal Company located in Pou Chrei commune, Pech Chreada district.*
The skeleton of a gaur was found by forest rangers in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in a protected area in Sre Preah commune, Keo Seima district.
“Two banteng were shot and authorities found an AK-47 shell casing 50m from the dead animals. The gaur was also shot with a rifle and was found in a rice field,” said Sopheak.
He said the banteng carcasses and the gaur skeleton were buried.
“We have evidence to identify two or three suspects but we are still investigating to find more evidence,” he said.
