Cambodia News (Kandal): On May 9, 2020, at 7:30 am, two sisters were arrested for attacking a woman named Nhem Bach, a 61 year old money lender at Kampong Kantout market, Svay Ming village, Kandal Steung district, Kandal.

The suspects were identified as sisters Som Chanlin, 36 years old, and Som Chanri, 39 years old. At the arrest, the police confiscated a cleaver, a shirt, and a bag.

Before the incident, the money lender went to the market, asking the two sisters to pay back the US$200 that she had lent them. But the two women refused to give back the money and became agressive, they insulted the victim and used a cleaver to chop on the table to threaten her. And then one of the sisters pushed the victim and attacked her. When the victim went to file a complaint at the police station, the suspect followed her and tried to attack her again.

Loan sharks exist because there are people who need money. If all the loan sharks are dead, where would irresponsible people get their money from?

Might as well ban all forms of informal borrowing as well, such Ton Tin. Why not ban Microfinance companies and Banks, too?

Then people would only spend what they can afford.

And have enough to buy cars after saving for 3-5 years.

And have enough to buy homes after saving for 30 years or so.

Am I contradicting myself? Absolutely!
