Russia now has second-highest rate of Covid-19 spread as other countries ease restrictions

Up to 2% of Moscow’s population may be infected with coronavirus, the city’s mayor warned on Saturday, as hospitals in the Russian capital were overwhelmed and another top government tested positive.
Covid-19 took hold relatively late in Russia, but is now growing fast, with the country showing the second-highest spread of the disease in the world. A record 9,623 new cases on Saturday indicated infections have not yet reached a plateau.
If Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin’s estimate is correct, that would mean more than 240,000 people may have the virus, four times official figures for the city. Hospitals in the capital are already at capacity, with television footage showing ambulances forced to wait for hours to deliver the infected.
On Friday authorities announced the housing minister was the latest top official to test positive. Vladimir Putin has not been pictured in public for nearly a month and is working from his residence outside Moscow.

Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
"Levitt said he’s in sync with those calling for strong measures to fight the outbreak. The social-distancing mandates are critical — particularly the ban on large gatherings — because the virus is so new that the population has no immunity to it, and a vaccine is still many months away. “This is not the time to go out drinking with your buddies,” he said.

We know how media can take separate phrases out of context and fit them into their agenda. Better watch the interview. He does call for some social distancing, but only Sweden style.DaveG wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 2:02 am "Levitt said he’s in sync with those calling for strong measures to fight the outbreak. When the free money runs out (re. in UK) , the shit will hit the fan.
Actually it's ok staying at home for free cash - getting really good on PS4 now.
Beats doing a boring job for sure!

I'm liking Sweden more and more.
The problem is that so many governments round the world have chosen their course and will stick to it. If all are doing the same thing then they can't be singled out for blame. It's herd immunity for politicians.
The sooner we come out and the panic stops the better. It is easy to quickly instil fear in people. Instilling courage is another matter.
A Guardian poll put the UK population at 67% in favour of keeping the lockdown a while longer. Not a surprise, people are getting used to sitting on their arses with 80% salary being paid and not spending any money other than food and cheap booze. Very sustainable.

Yes, for some, but its a mixed bag, like my oldest son he still has to go out and do is job, the youngest has his own business and can't wait to get back, daughter works at home anyway, so no change for her.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 3:32 pm I'm liking Sweden more and more.
