Senator Suggests Denying Visas for Chinese Students to Study Science in U.S.

Not much USA debt is owned by China now:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_ ... ted_StatesHistorically, the share held by foreign governments had grown over time, rising from 13 percent of the public debt in 1988[54] to 34 percent in 2015.[55] In more recent years, foreign ownership has retreated both in percent of total debt and total dollar amounts. China's maximum holding of 9.1% or $1.3 trillion of US debt occurred in 2011, subsequently reduced to 5% in 2018. Japan's maximum holding of 7% or $1.2 trillion occurred in 2012, subsequently reduced to 4% in 2018.[56]

Just watch. They are going to get a US court judgement holding China responsible for the current economic damages, allowing them to seize all those bonds and treasury bills currently held by Chinese entities. There will be recourse in the US courts only for those Chinese citizens who can prove they were not responsible for the outbreak. Of course, that will basically be impossible without getting the Chinese government to cooperate in an investigation, so the China debt problem goes away. Which means China can no longer tank the USD by selling those instruments into the market, and the Fed is free to print. They can repudiate over $1 trillion in debt overnight while allowing the US to maintain the fiction of being credit worthy.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 6:23 pm Doesn't the US owe China $1 trillion or so? The senator should be encouraging foreigners to come and study in the US, times are tough.
Besides, the higher education system in the USA is already on death's doorstep. Nobody is going to pay huge fees this year for remote learning. The real universities with large endowments and that get research grants will survive obviously. The taxpayer subsidized state systems will continue, just leaner and with fewer campuses. The rest of the system is going to radically downsize and yield to newer models like Coursera. Accredited fully online universities are where the money is going to be at now.
