A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot - BUT with Happy Ending
Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
what has pieman to say now?
well done, HE!
well done, HE!
Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
Most likely the same way he originally purchased, and then lost, the land....via the nominee structure with the real estate agent as the nominee....he still doesn't own the land, because legally he can't
Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
bet nobody will mess with it now, not with HE being involved
Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
i think if HE ha d to intervene again he would not be happy

Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
I think his age and simple appearance might have gained some sympathy from the Cambodians.
Assuming the property is now in the name of another Cambodian (the RE agent that helped him ??) he should do a longterm lease with them. I've read this is pretty safe if the terms are drawn up correctly and the lease is registered against the title in PP to prevent any sale without the Lessees consent. He'd have to pay a monthly rent to make it legit, but call it insurance.

According to Tom’s Facebook page latest update, he thanks HE for Cambodian citizenship being given to him.

This is quite an exceptional outcome. Cambodian citizenship is notoriously difficult to obtain.
Well done Tom and his supporters.

@offroadscholar ...long term lease as you described is one of the safest options. No need to pay monthly rent though, because you "purchase" the entire lease period initially.
@kammekor...precisely, this guys probably gonna cark it in a few years, then the property will belong to whoever the nominee is.

Apparently, he's now a Khmer Citizen, so he will have it in his own name.PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 8:11 pm @offroadscholar ...long term lease as you described is one of the safest options. No need to pay monthly rent though, because you "purchase" the entire lease period initially.
