Has bassaka air gone bust? Just read a Facebook post saying so but can’t find anything else on it.
Shame as I think they were the only locally owned airline in Cambodia

At least they have been flying today normally. For example flight from SR to PP arrived normally. But I do see posts on FB some people saying operation ending soon (7th October being last date). But no official announcements anywhere.cautious colin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 11:28 pm Has bassaka air gone bust? Just read a Facebook post saying so but can’t find anything else on it.

Bassaka Air, Wikipedia
Bassaka AirAirbus A320-200
Nice paint job already. Did someone say they were Cambodian ?
I wonder which company bought them out. Don't suppose it matters much.

Sorry, I was wrong about that (well the OP was). Bassaka has always been China/NagaCorp owned:Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 12:03 am Bassaka AirAirbus A320-200

turns out not one of the airlines operating in this country is owned by this country.Cambodia Bayon Airlines—a wholly owned subsidiary of Bayon Holdings that enjoys financial backing from Aviation Industry Corporation of China’s Joy Air, and Bassaka Air, a joint venture between China International Travel Services and Hong Kong-listed NagaCorp.

I checked out their webpage - flights are proposed only for Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Changsha and Hangzhou in China - but whatever you click on, you get No Flights Found.
I imagine that they have been taken over by a Chinese lost-cost, but I haven't seen any announcements anywhere.

Flying into turbulence: Nation’s airlines suffer severe delays and cancellations
Despite the rising number of passenger arrivals in two of Cambodia’s international airports, along with increasing routes and new destinations, the airline sector in Cambodia is said to be going through turbulent times.
Industry sources told Khmer Times that the unreliability of flights mounted by the numerous Cambodian-registered airlines couples with frequent cancelled or delayed flights, up to seven hours or more, has put a dampener on the initial enthusiasm which many Chinese investors had when applying for airline licences in Cambodia.
Even regularly scheduled mainstream airlines are said to be abruptly delaying, rescheduling or even cancelling flights altogether with no clear explanations given, and inconveniencing passengers.
According to the Cambodia airports website, almost 43 airlines are scheduled to operate flights to Cambodia during the winter season between Oct 27, 2019 and March 20, 2020. A bulk of these airlines are regular carriers from China and other national carriers or registered budget carriers.
The industry source said current airlines which are not state-owned and which are not large privately owned airlines are also suffering from poor passenger loads, partly brought by the exodus of Chinese nationals from Cambodia since the ban on online gambling was introduced.
“Another reason is the aggressive and at times blind expansion into areas where passenger yields were not thoroughly studied and also because of ‘ego’ expansion of routes to compete against each other.”
“It is not uncommon to check into a flight on any one of the Cambodian registered airlines and after waiting for hours and get informed that the flight has been cancelled for various reasons. Another reason is the waning drop in passenger load as a result of safety fears of some of the aircraft.”

Cambodian Air Services Record Sharp Drop of Passengers
AKP Phnom Penh, April 18, 2020 --
As novel coronavirus pandemic has posed serious impacts on travels and made countries on lockdown, Cambodia’s aviation sector has recorded an extreme drop of passengers.
The number of passengers through the three international airports has seen a 90 percent decrease as of early April, said H.E. Sin Chansereyvutha, Spokesperson of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, stressing that the drop would continue till the next four or five months.
In January, the sector declined about 20 percent and the figure continued to drop to 70 percent in March after a 50 percent drop recorded in February, he said in a recent press conference at the Office of the Council of Ministers.
However, he did not give the number of passengers in detail.
“It is the pandemic impacting globally,” he said. “In Cambodia, although the aviation sector has been hit hard, number of flights has been reduced or air service has almost been shut down, but no local airlines have announced bankruptcy.”
Like other sectors, six local airlines are given three-month break of paying maximum tax to the government and if the pandemic goes on further, the government will consider helping more, he said.
Local airlines are National Flag Carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air, KC International Airlines, JC (Cambodia) International Airlines, Cambodia Airways, Sky Angkor Airlines, and Lanmei Airlines (Cambodia).
