Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
I am sure you already know the answer *wink-wink*. It’s because you can’t sell vaccine if there is naturally acquired immunity. That is why advice must be taken from independent experts, to avoid conflict of interests.Ryan754326 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 5:54 pm Can anyone here explain to me why so many experts seem to believe that catching this virus, and recovering, will not necessarily create immunity, or that it could be very short lived, while at the same time assuming that a vaccine should be an effective, sustainable solution?

That’s exactly what I’m thinking, but I thought I’d let someone else come out and say it, so as to avoid having the inevitable to tinfoil hat comments being directed at me.hunter8 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 7:33 pmI am sure you already know the answer *wink-wink*. Stanford study suggests Covid infections are 50 to 85 times more than confirmed cases

Sure, it’s still far from herd immunity but it gives us the picture of published infections and mortality rate is a big pile of chicken poo which has been a suspicion since at least two months ago.

While all us experts are throwing around our wisdom on CEO, all over the real world real-life scientists and public health experts are beavering away trying to understand this new virus from hundred different angles.
Why don't they just tune in here? We know better. We can look thru the bullshit.
We can seeee.

The main criticism is not towards scientists, it’s towards media for their misleading wording. They only have to add one word “detected” to the number of infections to direct the blame away from themselves.SternAAlbifrons wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 3:22 pm While all us experts are throwing around our wisdom on CEO, all over the real world real-life scientists and public health experts are beavering away trying to understand this new virus from hundred different angles.

In the post corona world credibility of mass media will be under a big question by a larger number of people as too many people have been affected by media’s incompetency or intentional fear mongering (pick the reason you prefer)... once the true number of infections and much lower mortality rates are learned with more studies like the above.

I can certainly agree with part of that argument, Hunter.
People are sheep.
But that does't mean i think the population of the world, most leaders and most public health officials have been led down the garden path.
We are all learning from scratch, and in situations like this the "precautionary principle" is a very wise course.
