Rabies vaccination volunteers needed for Mission Rabies Cambodian project

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Thanks for the support everyone!

It's actually 100k dogs over 10 days which = 10,000 dogs per day using 125 teams (120 door to door teams and 5 capture-vaccinate-release teams) made up of government staff and international volunteers. That's 80 vacinations per team per day, definitely hard work, but definitely possible.

The volunteer fee quotes is the cost for volunteers living overseas and covers all in-country costs. If anyone would like to volunteer who lives in Phnom Penh, please get in touch by emailing [email protected] and we can discuss how you could work with us to make Phnom Penh safe from rabies.

We don't just need people with animal handling experience, the navigation and data collection using our smart-phone application and the vaccination card writing is an essential part of the process and can be done by anyone.

Keep an eye on the media, our website (www.missionrabies.com) and this thread for more information and a detailed schedule of where we will be in November to get your dog protected against rabies for FREE!

One question on your good cause, you say government staff and international volunteers. What do you expect the ratio being of the numbers - volunteers living overseas compared to Khmer government staff?
Also are the government staff conditioned to pay the same fees as overseas volunteers?
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Hey!
This is a collaborative project with the government with a predicted ratio of about 90:10 gov:volunteers. Gov will not be paying anything to us, rather they will be directing resources alongside us into the project.

The aim is to build government capacity and train the government workers to be able to run the project (with our technical support) in subsequent years. And hopefully expand nationally, but that depends on this initial project.

Hope that answers your question :)
