Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
Back end of march when they 1st announced that thailand was shutting down, i figured by may 1st things would start to get back to normal( or as normal as possible)
it will still take at least 6 months,(if not more) till tourism can even think about restarting
3 days into Phuket lockdown and its boring as hell. Doesn't help my bicycle got a flat and cant buy a inner tube ;-(
and the beach is closed

Chonburi first province to announces lift of restrictions
https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/cv19 ... strictionsThis morning new orders were put in place with a statement from Chonburi provincial Public Relations confirming that “all businesses will reopen as of May 1, IF the situation does not worsen.”
The statement says that if the situation with Covid-19 continues to improve the current plan is to reopen businesses and get the tens of thousands of local residents to return to their “normal life”, an estimated 80 to 90% of the city hopefully getting back to work as usual.
In the announcement below it states that all restaurants will reopen for people to dine, all massage shops will reopen, fitness centres will reopen, all hotels can reopen, all markets will be open along with all public areas and open all shops in all areas.
It is likely that it will take months until international travel returns, however, opening on at least a local scale is a first step to take to get some people back on their feet.
This order, of course, is subject to change based on the overall emergency decree that remains in place and the overall Covid-19 situation in Thailand. Meanwhile, Udon and Phuket have also stated in the past 24 hours they are also looking at May 1 as a reopening date

It seems to me that a few basic realities exist that need resolving:phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 1:13 pm Back end of march when they 1st announced that thailand was shutting down, i figured by may 1st things would start to get back to normal( or as normal as possible)

1. Business's can't and won't open without customers/tourist demand;
2. Airlines wont start up again without government restrictions being lifted (quarantine #1) and there is a demand to make bookings;
3. Tourists demand wont return unless they are confident that the first two are in place and will remain so.

its the old;....which came first, the chicken or the egg.
Worldwide, not just se asia
People need to be employed, before they have money to spend
Reminds me of that baseball move where he built a field out in the middle of a corn field in Iowa
"build it and they will come"

Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
A couple of months with bars/restaurants open without any tourists around is a very pleasant prospect for me as a customer. Probably a once in a lifetime chance to enjoy a quiet but functioning Pattaya again. There are enough resident expats to help support many hospitality/service business and employment but only a fraction of the number with tourists. I'd like to see common sense continue with reopenings, given the lack of likely customers around hopefully social distancing can be maintained naturally.
At this stage I'd take being able to buy a carry out for starters, then a restaurant for a meal and a beer, and then finally bars opening again.

Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Chinese will be an overwhelming majority of tourists in SEA. They would be anyway, it’s just the current events have precipitated the inevitable. It’s their backyard after all, they have been and traveled and traded here for hundreds and thousands of years.
Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
well isn't that great news if it happens. re tourism come back? maybe more intra-country and regional tourists for many months, but for the husband-wife-kids visits from western countries I'm less optimistic. After a number of months of loss of income coupled with the induced faux flu fear (which apparently many people actually believe) I can't forsee falang families in any numbers for at least a year. Now as for Pattaya, "it's the bars and the girls, stupid" if I may borrow from the Bill Klinton quote you mentioned before - mongers and party lovers will be the brave devil may care and return.Cowshed Cowboy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:09 pm A couple of months with bars/restaurants open without any tourists around is a very pleasant prospect for me as a customer. One might use western login and think hotels, airlines, and bars would drop prices to compete and lure tourists back. One might think the Thai regime might go very light on the visa requirements and free on the one month visa stamp on arrival. One might stand on their head and sing too....

Today in Thailand
Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
If Bangkok doesn't move first, I'll be in Pattaya the first week of May. Will see what happens April 20 when the Bangkok restrictions are supposed to come off. If they do, I think a lot of people will still stay away for a while. That's OK for me. But I still might hit Pattaya in May, just for a change of scenery.Cowshed Cowboy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:09 pm A couple of months with bars/restaurants open without any tourists around is a very pleasant prospect for me as a customer.
