Re: Greta Thunberg's climate change speech
Your upbringing has definitely shaped your views, There is no exploitation, it is help. The law of the jungle is a hard way to live my friend. the 2400 billionaires hold more wealth than 60% of humanity. Imagine what life would be like if you grew up in a civilized western nation. For example Sweden, Norway or Canada. Where socialist ideals, that is to say, the common good is most highly regarded, countries where the poor sick are entitled to the same health care as the rich sick, perhaps you wouldn t have such a fatalistic view of humanity. I traveled to many communist countries in the 70's, they were backward compared to mine, poorer of course but the deprivation you speak of also happened in 3/4 of the world that weren t communists, What are necessities were considered luxuries in Thailand and Cambodia 2 generations ago. And still are in the bottom 50% of the world.

Re: Greta Thunberg's climate change speech
Let's steer this discussion back onto the climate change topic. I know it started along the lines of the impact of communism on climate change. However, it then veered towards a general communism vs capitalism discussion unrelated to climate change. Start another topic if you want to discuss that but going forward stick to the topic here please.

Yes there are more competent people aroundJohn Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:57 pmSure, but how come a supposedly serious issue is being emphasized by a kid? Aren't there any other more competent people around?Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:51 pm Youth should be idealistic. If youth is not idealistic, who is ? I'm all for jolting the old fogeys out of their complacency. I just don' t have the faith anymore.
With time comes cynicism.
But Gretta is cute and entertaining and she gets the point across. Heck, we had All Gore inventor of the internet and of Gore-Tex. Before that we had ATWA, that was talking about this issue in 1969!

An interesting (although far from new) take from Jane Goodall
"Jane Goodall says global disregard for nature brought on coronavirus pandemic"
