This is a virus and as such, for most virus's a vaccine will be found, eventually,( they say 12-18 months)
Will the travel industry be shut down this long? It can't go back to the way it was BC, ( Before Corona)
Will the worlds travelers be need vaccinated against this virus?
Will this mean a reintroduction of the infamous Yellowcard, ( what we needed to show that we were vaccinated against yellow fever) needed to travel, that some of us had in the 70's?

Once the vaccine is found
it will need be tested for a few months, distributed, people will need get it, how will they prove they are not a threat to others? A new yellow card ( a new color prehaps?) will need be printed, distributed to the clinics/drs that give the shots.

Many of the places that were open months ago will have closed, many will be able to re open, BUT will need new staff as many of the staff would have gone home and found new jobs. I am already, here in Phuket, seeing more than a few for sale/rent signs going up, where 3 months ago there were businesses.
Many wont open, so good opportunity for new businesses to get a foot hold, IF they have the $$$. But it will take deep pockets to survive till the travel industry gets back on its feet.

Landlords for all those closing business will be in very deep debt, if they can hold on, otherwise the banks will take all the properties.

Vaccination cards in hand, the first ones to start traveling again will be the independent "backpackers" and business travelers. Same as the 60-early 80's
The middle class,"suitcase" travelers, wont be around for at least 18-24 months. They would have lost their jobs and had to find new ones or if they were lucky will only be in debt, so vacations are out for awhile.
Could it be like the late 70's again??

Mass tourism will take at least 2 high seasons to get back on its feet..

In SE Asia; Places like Nepal, Cambodia, Bali, Thailand will be hurt the hardest as they all depend on mass tourism.
But saying that, places like Laos, Burma, Thailand and Cambodia might recover quicker, thou at the lower end as the independent traveler's will be hitting these places.. The big expensive, resorts an hotels that employ thousands will be in trouble for awhile.
Living on a tourist island, that depends on mass tourism, i can see how badly this will affect tens of thousands of people

Doom an gloom? Perhaps, or maybe just a time to reflect on how we want tourism to really proceed..

You have some very good interesting points there Richard. Some parts of Europe are going to take some recovery, time when the virus can be controlled of such by vaccine, now the case is that each are taking care of their own, people and economy. Hard to say how long this will go on for until some normality comes into effect.
Then what of people's lives, buisiness and work. The longer this goes on the countries ecconimes are going to take a pounding. Then later when there is stability. I would imagine that there will be talk on how this happened and what/who are responsible.
It's definitely a very uncertain time, with such loss of life, and countries ecconimes.
Travel to most would not be first on people's thought. But as far has SE Asian countries go,
I think you yourself and many other people would agree that China will do has before and build their economy and that of the country they make and do business. Because of the situation of effect this too has had on people, say of Cambodia for example, before you may say that the people may have been a little over ambitious, firstly from overcharge, then explaination, landing many in debt. I would think price would be cheaper in every aspect, due to country and personal debt. The results giving China the faster ecconomic growth,
over that of what other effected world countries have.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

China might come out on top and make good use of the situation for themselves.
Western oriented businesses could be replaced by Chinese ones. PP riverside full of Chinese neon signs?

Then again, I don't know how badly hit they are/not are.

Surely, their western customers won't have as much money to buy their output.

Furthermore, how will this affect Chinese tourism to Europe? Perhaps even more Chinese holiday makers will take a vacation closer to home, in Thailand, Burma...
Chinese investors might turn Sihanoukville into an Asian Cancun.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Plasma from coronavirus survivors found to help severely ill patients

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... tients?CMP
Convalescent plasma treatments date back to before the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. The therapy relies on the fact that people who have recovered from a viral infection have antibodies in their blood that can rapidly detect and destroy the virus the next time it attacks. Infusing the plasma into patients, and potentially into people at risk of being infected, can boost their immune systems and potentially provide protection.
Not sure if this has already been posted. All seems pretty obvious. Makes testing even more important

Armchair quarterbacking at it’s finest. What does really needing it mean? Should we wait for someone to die first and then after they are dead we can than declare that the patient actually ‘needed it’?

ICUs have more personnel and more invasively monitoring patients. On the floors, patients are checked every hour (at best). They can worsen and die in that time and no one would know.

Finally, if you are worried about your loved one, would you rather have a ‘just a precaution’ or wait for them to ‘really need it’ in hindsight?

Like the cut of your jib, NewKid. If we were to use the example of our own Prime Minister. Fine at 5pm. Admitted to hospital at 7pm.

feel like CCP is going to make it very hard for individuals to take money out of the country... so things such as small business along riverside going back to locals, or those who can keep things running.. a smart land lord would do a short term rent freeze for commercial realestate... but I doubt that would happen

this isn't a private hospital, so you don't pay to go ICU
is his condition typical of those who enter ICU?
if his condition is better than usual, then the mortality stats above won't apply

pretty simple if you try to understand the point
rather than just attacking because you don't like something

This is a good idea. This is definitely a good idea. For sure, nothing could go wrong here. Definitely.

20,000 people pack popular Chinese tourist spot after health restrictions lifted

"Chinese tourist spots were packed over the weekend as the country lifted travel restrictions that had been in place to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

Huangshan Mountain reached its daily limit of 20,000 visitors by 7:48 a.m. local time Sunday, state media Global Times reported. A few hours later, visitors awaiting entrance were advised to come back on a different day."
