Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand logs 51 new coronavirus cases, 3 deaths Monday

Thailand has recorded 51 new confirmed coronavirus cases -- including 13 health workers -- and three additional deaths on Monday, a health official said.

Total infections in the country now stand at 2,220, with the cumulative death toll at 26.

The number of new cases was exactly half the 102 reported on Sunday, and the lowest number of new cases since March 20.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said the 24th death was a Thai man aged 28 who was an employee at a company in Bangkok. A colleague of his wife had earlier tested positive for the disease.

The man fell sick on March 27 with a fever, cough and sore throat. He first visited a private hospital in Bangkok and then moved to another hospital in Samut Prakan province.

On Saturday his fever rose to 39.2 degrees Celsius and his blood oxygen saturation plunged. He was moved to a private hospital in Bangkok and died late Saturday night.

The 25th death was a self-employed Thai man aged 51 who suffered from diabetes, hypertension and obesity. The man fell sick on March 28 and went to a private hospital in Bangkok with coughing, headache and muscle pain. He was admitted on April 1 for muscle pain and breathing difficulties.

He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and tested positive for Covid-2 last Thursday. He died on Saturday.

The 26th death was a 59-year-old female vendor who suffered from diabetes. Dr Taweesin said she gambled at many locations in Bangkok and fell sick on March 29.

She was admitted to a private hospital in Bangkok on April 1 with breathing difficulties, low blood oxygen and severe pneumonia. She tested positive for the disease last Thursday and died on Saturday.

“The last three deaths were of people under 60 years of age and one of them was 28 years old,” Dr Taweesin said.

He warned that people should not feel comfortable with Monday's lower number of 51 new infections because many suspected new cases are being investigated could be confirmed later.

The 2,220 local cases were reported in 66 provinces. That number includes 793 people who recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

Bangkok recorded the largest number of cases, 1,051, followed by 143 in Nonthaburi, 135 in Phuket, 103 in Samut Prakan, 66 in Chon Buri, 54 in Yala, 46 in Pattani, 37 each in Chiang Mai and Songkhla, and 28 in Pathum Thani.

No Covid-19 cases were reported in the 11 provinces of Ang Thong, Bung Kan, Chai Nat, Kamphaeng Phet, Nan, Phangnga, Phichit, Ranong, Satun, Singburi and Trat.

The 51 new cases included 22 people in close contact with previous patients, 13 health workers (11 at private hospitals), three attendees of religious ceremonies, three people who worked in crowded areas or in close promixity to foreigners, one returnee, one foreign visitor and one in close contact with arrivals from overseas. Seven cases were under investigation.

No plans to order 24 hour curfew in Thailand: govt
There will be no extension to the current curfew in Thailand, the government said on Monday.

Over the weekend, rumours circulated on social media that an announcement of a 24 hour curfew was imminent.
However, two government officials on Monday said that there are no plans to order a 24 hour curfew any time soon.

In his daily media briefing, Mr. Natapanu Nopakun, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the government has no plans to order a 24 hour curfew at this time.

BANGKOK (REUTERS) - Thailand reported 38 new coronavirus infections and the death of a 54-year-old man on Tuesday (April 7), a spokesman for a government agency said.

In addition to 16 new cases, including imported ones, there are 17 patients linked to previous cases and five people who tested positive but await investigation into how they caught the disease, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

Since the outbreak in January, Thailand's tally stands at 2,258 infections and 27 death, while 824 patients have recovered and gone home.

I'd say yes, its believable and the numbers over the next week will prove it one way or the other
New infected cases will drop, deaths MIGHT go up for those already infected, recoveries will increase.

Inshallah

I have been here 30+years and in general love it here, the food and the people
BUT things like this get to me.
Its the stupid people, (both in charge an simple minded locals) that will fuck this country
More worrying is local anger brewing amongst Thais, some of who remain convinced, partly fuelled by the comments from the Thai Health Minister, that Thailand’s Covid-19 problem is a ‘farang’ import. And that the dirty farangs are the reason that Thai people are currently holed up in their homes and losing their jobs.

Last night a post was made on a popular Phuket Facebook page calling on upset Thai locals to grab some stones and make a slingshot to fire at foreigners who may have been flouting the local curfews. The same site was posting photos of ‘white’ foreigners around the island, most not wearing masks. They were becoming the target to vent three anger.

“#Get out from my country if you can not stay at home shit tourist.”

There were 5.7K of likes and 540 comments (as of lunchtime today), and hundreds of supportive comments from disgruntled locals saying they were ready to ‘take up arms’ and take on the dirty foreign tourists flaunt. In amongst some of the more violent comments there were a few voices of reason, not many. The Thaiger has contacted the author for comment. No response has been provided at this stage.

Trying to navigate their way through the maze of conflicting travel advice, new rules, visa changes and, well, just their own safety at this time, has been a really difficult time for foreigners, particularly the ones stranded here and perhaps not as nuanced about living with the locals and Thai culture.

As a general rule it's never a good idea to go to immigration on a Monday or the day after a public holiday. There has been widespread sharing of photos and video from Pattaya immigration today, I drove past at 10.30am this morning and the overcrowding and queueing was severe. In every other aspect of daily life restrictions have been put in place yet the govt is failing to address this most obvious dire situation. It's hard not to get angry at the appalling double standards foreigners are being subjected to.

I drove past again at 4 o'clock and although they'd shut the gates to the compound people inside the covered tents were still squashed in waiting. Absolute madness.

Why they won't introduce some form of amnesty to certain visa/immigration related requirements like other countries have is a massive fail.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

^^^ It's absolutely irresponsible. Even the proposed changes to "help" foreigners doesn't go far enough. You will still have to line up for 90-day reports (unless the app is working, which is rare) or do extensions, meaning at least a couple of Im Office visits and one embassy visit. Just shocking, and in fact, ill intentioned, if you ask me. No respect of the risks to us and Im officers.
