Traveling in Times of Coronavirus

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Indonesia to temporarily ban all foreign arrivals, transits to curb further spread of coronavirus
JAKARTA - Indonesia will temporarily ban all visits and transits by foreign nationals to the country to curb the further spread of the coronavirus.

"President (Joko) sees that our current policy needs to be made stricter. We have decided that all visits and transits by foreign nationals to Indonesia will temporarily be banned," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told reporters after a virtual ministers' meeting with President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (March 31).

Exceptions to the ban include those with work permits as well as diplomats, Ms Retno added, stressing that proper health protocols will still apply.

I understand the ban on visitors. But when you ban non-national's simply transiting that then grounds all airlines.

The cancellations of service takes a press release, emails to passengers, crew and service suppliers. Not doing something is easy. The start up will be much slower and very expensive. The first country to bring down the barriers will be a brave country indeed.

Even if Thailand (just for example) opens up for transit, how do you restart a route from, say, next week with zero bookings. It's a hell of a risk. And even if one country opens its doors, and an airline prepares to resume service, the hotels etc are going to have to be very quick off the mark to be ready to accept bookings.

It's a real mess out there...

London is wide open: Madrid, Rome New York etc. The whole world is welcome it seems. And no health checks whatsoever.

Single passenger flights: The daily woes of airlines, and the crew still working
Tracy Rucinski
4 Min Read

(Reuters) - When Reuters photographer Carlos Barria boarded American Airlines flight 4511 from Washington Reagan National Airport to New Orleans on Friday for an assignment, he was the only passenger on the 76-seat jet.

“There were some awkward moments,” Barria said.

Like when the gate agent announced a formal boarding process only to remember that Barria was the sole passenger who would board, or when the pilot approached his seat to personally explain a delay in take-off due to a mechanical issue, rather than speak over the PA system.

The two flight attendants invited Barria to sit in a first-class seat and went through the safety demonstration for Barria alone.

“I felt I had to pay attention,” he said.

Nearly vacant flights have become the norm for U.S. airlines, despite a drastic reduction in the number of planes they put in the air each day as passenger traffic has diminished in the midst of the new coronavirus gripping countries across the globe.
