UK FCO Advise All UK Citizens Abroad to Return Home

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

With airlines, airports and transit routes effectively closed now, I'm guessing it would be near impossible to get home even if anyone wanted to.

So why isn't the British Embassy starting to collect data about those of us who, for whatever reason, are here to stay?

Wouldn't some sort of online register be a good idea so they know exactly who's here, and who to contact back in the UK in the event of ....well, death?

I'm sure the British government have enough to do back home than worry about a bunch of expats halfway around the world who've kissed goodbye to the motherland anyway, but there is still a British Embassy here, who's job it is to deal with situations such as this and at least offer us some sort of comfort if nothing else.

Having some sort of voluntary online database of who's stuck here, who's here of their own accord and who wants to go home but can't might be a start.

Looking on the FCO website it may as well say "Good luck everybody. You're gonna need it! Ta-ra!"...
