Samuel Lovejoy may be the dumbest expat criminal in the history of Cambodia.

Facing child molestation charges in Virginia, Lovejoy fled to Cambodia and was hiding out in Kampot.

Lovejoy had a former roommate who worked at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing as a Treasury Department attaché.

Lovejoy CALLED his ex-roommate at the embassy in Beijing and spoke to him for an hour and hold him he was hiding out in Cambodia from U.S. child molestation charges and asked if he could borrow money.

Reminder of the case, which dates back to 2020: US national, Samuel Douglas Lovejoy, was arrested in Kampot, Cambodia after he skipped bail in the United States. He was charged with sexual offenses against a minor under the age of 13, committed in the US.
ASHBURN, VA — An Ashburn man who fled the country nearly a year ago after being charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile was captured Tuesday in Cambodia, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Samuel D. Lovejoy, 31, was arrested in the wee hours of the morning by the Cambodian General Department of Immigration.

Lovejoy had been arrested Jan. 6 of last year and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a juvenile younger than 13. He was released from jail four days later on a $25,000 secured bond and is believed to have left the U.S. on Feb. 15.

He finally was tracked down by a joint effort that included the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit, the FBI, the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Marshals and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

RESULT: Guilty as charged
Samuel LOVEJOY was convicted on 4 charges on 8 July, 2021. He has been registered as a sex offender and is currently incarcerated in Leesburg, Virginia, USA.

Just out of curiosity, do Cambodian convicts treat Paedos in the same way western convicts do? Is it seen as just as much a heinous crime here as it is in the west?

Just want to be sure he's in the best (and by best, I mean worst) place possible.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Yes, I know. I was just wondering if his fate would have been worse, better or about the same if he were to be incarcerated in Cambodia.

I don't believe Cambodian prisons are as violent as US ones, but the living conditions are rough.
