Visa extension

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Visa extension

Post by chiltern »

I was due to fly from Kuala Lumpur after spending two months here on my tourist visa and extension but now they have closed their borders until April. Any ideas how immigration will treat people who over stay their visas due to travel restrictions

Would be nice to think they might forgive overstayers in these circumstances. Otherwise you/we might be forced to do visa runs to Thailand or somewhere else in the meantime.

Knowing Cambodia they will treat it as if it is your problem. On the positive side, they do have the $10 per day overstay option (although I’m not sure the Maximum number of days).

If you’re not one of the 5 banned nationalities you could do a border run to Thailand.

I hope everything works out well for you.
One idea:
Perhaps have a travel agent ask on your behalf (without revealing your details!) whether immigration can offer some kind of emergency extension for an already extended tourist visa under these extraordinary circumstances.
