Always best to check any potential rentals out in person...never commit to renting/buying a place in Cambodia until you've checked it out thoroughly, especially at night time, last thing you want is to rent a place near a KTV, Khmer Club or, especially in Kampot, one of the backpacker places that pump extremely loud music all night.
