Because they now rush all diagnosed with corona to the hospital. If they did the same with flu patients, you’d hear of the same collapse of health care system.

Last year 600 people (in a word with originally 50 beds) were ventilated in Milan too, because of the flu?

Check the video on page 133 from an Italian specialist, saying they will start 'triaging' patients because of lack of resources. Triaging is a sweet word, coming from the Napoleonic wars. It basically means selecting which one you will (try to) save and which ones you will leave (to die).

Can't remember panicking reports like that from last year's flu season.

Please read the official numbers from CDC and WHO of hospitalizations and deaths from flu I posted above. Suddenly most people stopped understanding basic math.

Indeed, you are exactly pointing out what I'm saying: then there was no panic. Now there is, but I still fail to understand why.

Panic doesn't make people need ventilators.

Last year they coped with 50 ventilators in Milan for all kinds of diseases, including the flu. Now they are using 600 just for COVID-19 and they are running short of resources. That's not caused by panic.

laurel and hardy?

typical seasonal flu infects around 10% of the population
with no immunity covid-19 could be worse
if even 0.5% of those need ventilators (and so far it looks more like 10%), we have a problem

i don't at all agree with shutting down entire countries
but this really can't be dismissed

.

monstra mihi bona!

Pretty decent summation for plebs.
Meum est propositum in taberna mori,
ut sint Guinness proxima morientis ori.
tunc cantabunt letius angelorum chori:
"Sit Deus propitius huic potatori."

It's interesting how some people keep saying "the flu kills xx,xxx people per year so corona is no big deal" as if the corona virus has had it's go and isn't going to continue killing thousands(likely tens-hundreds of thousands) for the rest of the year. The flu had a go at the entire worlds population, and you're comparing the number from an entire year to the new virus, which hasn't reached a Lot of the world yet, and is in it's very early days. No shit the flu has killed more people. Talk to me in nine months. I Bet you it gets a few more people between now and then...
Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...
